The Doodle

Whether you own an 80lbs. Bernadoodle or a 7lbs. Shihtzu, both breeds need regular grooming. But, what is "regular grooming?" When you think about a full coated Shih-tzu in the show ring, you envision a long, flowing coat. The only way that the coat can remain long and matt free is due to daily brushing and regular 2-4 week bathing/grooming sessions. This also applies to Doodles. If you want your dog to be in a longer coat, it is the owner's responsibility to provide that dog with regular, daily brushing/combing at home and monthly grooming at a professional.

What if this type of grooming routine doesn't fit your lifestyle? Don't have a lot of free time? On a budget? If you do not wish to commit to this type of grooming routine, it is best to keep your doodle in a short trim. When kept in a short trim, the hair does not have to be brushed daily. In all honestly, you don't have to do much brushing as long as you keep them on a 6-8 week haircut schedule.
